Position Papers and Research 101

You've started your MUN journey! Hurray! The first task you're up against is the position paper. And that means research. But don't fear! Here, you'll find everything you'll need to succeed in research and writing for ScrippsMUN position papers.

The Anatomy of a Position Paper

Paragraph One: What's the issue?

This is where you will put all of your background information! The statistics, why the statistics matter, why we care about this issue, what nations have been actively participating in this problem, etc.

Paragraph Two: What has the UN done?

This is where you will put what specifically the United Nations has done to solve the issue. Cite resolutions, committees, speeches, efforts, and how effective they were

Paragraph Three: What's your nation done?

This is the most important paragraph. How your country is involved, what they have done to solve the issue! You are representing the country, the country isn't representing you!
